What drives us at Robobo (The short story)
We are passionate hardware and software developers at Robobo. We started off with just hardware, making fun and useful circuits and interfaced them in various ways. We just enjoy creating, hacking and modifying electronics to extend their functionality and features.
Having tried to commercialize and publish hardware through conventional means, even asking for investment we found ourselves limited with options and very few would take notice of a simple bare circuit. We then came to understand that people are more likely to listen or pay attention to something well presented and in an appropriate embodiment (retail ready prototype).
There was a problem there because we were simple hardware hackers and had very little funds and financial means to be able to afford contracting or even attempting to have our projects and designs made via conventional means and process. We found that various expensive solutions using conventional means were available but very few were out there to assist the creative starting developer. We quickly understood that the problem was not ours alone as going through various websites including YouTube, we could see that great projects and cutting edge technology was everywhere but no easy means for the non technically minded or those in the field to access it.
Through research we came across a fantastic open source solution: the 3D printing solution provided by Rep Rap and others. There we came with the solution to our main problem and immediately came up with a strategy that could help us and many others that are in the same boat as us, and there Robobo came to be.
We came to the conclusion that we were still able to continue creating, modifying and hacking great hardware and have them distributed to all in revolutionary way. Imagine seeing on TV a new research project of cutting edge technology and getting home to print it and quickly put it together with little effort and using it on demand. Imagine being a developer wanting to obtain public reaction or finding out whether their project should be taken to the next level and actually having means of doing so with ease. The possibilities, benefits and practicality of our way of doing things are endless.
The future? The bigger picture.
This technology and the Robobo way of doing things will go beyond the simple means of distribution for hardware developers, at a near future we see the world being able to effortlessly have access to cutting edge technological developments and this be available to them immediately. This is just the tip of the iceberg, looking at the advantages of using such development, production and distribution of products we create an ecosystem that benefit teams working at remote locations, developers, testing of products, pre-release viability research, consumer tailored products, and much more.
Robobo is about simply merging technologies in order to build a future powered by technology made from the world to the world.
